How To Improve Your Focus And Brain Power
Yesterday I was reading the book “The Light in the Heart” and I found a very good quote “If you want to be happy, do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, focus on living fully in the present.” written by ― Roy T. Bennett, then I thought why not share my thought about “focus”.
Let us take a small example, imagine that you have to start some work and finish it today. You started your work very well but after some time you are not able to focus on that work so you thought why not take a break for 5 min. You pick up your mobile and start Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube then you don’t know how your 2 hours go by scrolling down your mobile. This is precisely what happens when your alarm rings in the morning, and you close it and go to sleep again for only 5 minutes. At that time, it reminds us of a time machine when it turns 5 minutes into 2 to 3 hours. By doing this, half of your day ends, and your work remains the same. This article is absolutely for you if your time is spent like this. My name is Kundan Mishra and in today’s article, I am going to tell you how you can maintain your focus without any distraction.
Before telling tips and tricks, I want to tell you one thing when we are in school, we are not told at all how to focus and how not to be distracted. So, let’s find out how to focus without any distractions.
Lists to improve focus
- Why do You Want to Focus?
The first and most important thing is why you want to focus Like you will have an AIM like learning music, writing novels, or preparing for an exam. Think about why you need to focus.
2. List Your work
Suppose you have a lot of work today and you are getting confused about where to start and how will it end. So first of all, make a list and focus on 2 or 3 important tasks and start. By starting work, your chaos will be reduced and you will be able to finish your work on time gradually.
3. Control your Internal and External Distraction
The best way to train your brain for work is to have a dedicated workstation. If you always work at a specific place, then it will be stored in your mind that this place is for working or studying. When you sit at your specific workstation, the thought will also come related to work like what did you do yesterday, what is to be done today, what is the deadline, etc. If you want to take a break, do not sit there and do not use your mobile or play games. You just leave your workplace and go somewhere else. Although it will take some time to make this habit. Always keep your deadline in front of your eyes which will always help you from distraction.
This is done through internal distraction, now let’s talk about external distraction which is a bit easier. I think the biggest distraction of the era is the smartphone. Because when you start working, only when a notification comes on the mobile. Then you pick up the phone and start seeing the notifications, and then you start running social media, and then time disappears while watching, and you don’t even know.
To avoid this, you can use the Pomodoro Effect. In which you can work for 45 minutes and take a break of 15 minutes. If 45 minutes is more, then work for 30 minutes and take a break for 5 minutes. By doing this you can improve yourself.
Suppose you have a big project or you want to start your own startup but you are delayed in doing it. It often happens that we want to start something and then think, first I do this, then I will do that then I will start. So, you stop it first, or else your work will continue to be delayed day by day.
You know, the right time to start is always right now. Once you are subjected to a distraction, it will run in a loop and you will not be able to resist. If you start any work immediately, it will have the reverse effect, and your work will end soon. I hope today’s article was helpful, let me know your thoughts in the comment box.
